Is leadership your passion or just your job?

Are you clear? Aware of the words that you use and the different perceptions of them throughout the organization. Only with clarity and a keen understanding of the people/talent at all levels, will you be able to unite those who are working toward the organization's mission and vision of your company.

James Kouzes and Barry Posner: "There's nothing more demoralizing than a leader who can't clearly articulate why we're doing what we're doing."

I would add to that: Not only clear communication is necessary, but the ability to inspire in others the desire, mission, and vision.

This is where leadership training and coaching can make a significant difference in a persons ability to lead, become clear, know their strengths and weaknesses in the role, and move toward greatness.

Indistinct Personal Boundaries As A Stressor

If you are someone that hasn't set well defined personal boundaries for yourself, you could be adding to your stress and impacting your health negatively. Here is a quote from the book, When Your Body Says No by Gabor Mate, MD:

..."There are ongoing negative effects on the body's hormonal and immune systems, since people with indistinct personal boundaries live with stress; it is a permanent part of their daily experience to be encroached upon by others. However, that is a reality they have learned to exclude from direct awareness."

Through awareness you can take better care of yourself holistically; define what is necessary for you to live with less stress; and determine the actions to take that will lead to others learning and respecting your boundaries.
If you would like some help with this, I’d be happy to coach you through this.

Pre Valentine's thinking..

With Valentine's Day right around the corner; and considering Appreciative Living has been my theme of late, I've chosen this quote for today:

“Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.” Unknown

If you have been hurt, it's hard to open yourself up again. So much so that when you do even if just a little, you may be "looking" for the hurt again. That which we look for we usually see manifest. Look for the joy, look for the love and look for the laughter and these things will likely surround you giving you the courage to open yourself up to be loved again. By doing this every day over the next week, you may find your Valentine's Day to be remarkable!

Are you standing by a precedent based solely on its existence?

It's interesting how often we hear, "Well, we don't want to do that for this person or business as it might set a new precedent." The old precedent may not be so great, but because it stands, we tend to stand by it without regard for positive change in place of it.

Clara Barton (1821-1912) American Civil War Nurse and founder of American National Red Cross said it best in this quote, "I have an almost complete disregard of precedent, and a faith in the possibility of something better. It irritates me to be told how things have always been done. I defy the tyranny of precedent. I go for anything new that might improve the past."

What precedent might be better off removed from your thinking, your life, your work?

A little courage goes a long way

"The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." Charles DuBois

I've been spending time with the most courageous women I've ever met. She is in constant pain and yet she is giving to everyone around her through her courage and laughter, prayers, and her faith in her Self. I hope you'll take a moment to step out and help someone today, whether it be a stranger, friend, or yourself. Have the courage, take the time.

Please affirm the healing, that Millie will take to her feeding tube or that she be released from it and be able to gain strength and become nourished through liquids. Thank you,

Do you trust yourself?

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” Golda Meir

If we can't trust our Self, then who can we trust. Start looking for the You that will unfold into joy if you only let it. Then you will see that you're ability to trust will increase and the wisdom that follows is truly liberating.
